Treasurer Search in 2019
I write this blog in the week we hit one of the most important numbers we defined as a team at the start of the year: the desired number of placements. The champagne season has started! Traditionally, I write this blog, in which I inform you about last year and look forward to the next, in November. That month I wrote my “Treasurer Search 10 year story”, so I decided to wait with this years’ version until December. So what happened in 2019?
2019 has not been a year of extremes in the market. There has been a lot of talk about Brexit, this has not resulted in a high influx of treasury centres. New tax advantages in the USA led to US treasury centres getting smaller or even leave. There have been a few IPOs and take overs. The relative strong economy has led to investments in corporate treasury, consultants have been busy. We received quite a few assignments from the junior and medior side of the market, Kim has had enough to do! The transfers at the higher end of the market have been “market average” and we are happy we could work on our share in the €150K and up segment. Our portfolio of placement in 2019 covers the graduate up to the group treasurer level and we never found this many assignments for interim managers. Also from market perspective it has been a good year for us.
This might strike you as boring but I think it is one of the most important aspects in my business: stability. There are two major components in our foundation that set us apart from other recruitment businesses: knowing about corporate treasury and long lasting relations. It is my conviction that people want to know who they are doing business with and appreciate talking to the same persons over a longer period of time. The core of our team has been the same over the last years and us working together this long, results in smoother and better processes. Still, to get from our current operations to perfection, there are a few steps to take. And that is what we will do.
Plans are becoming reality
10 years of entrepreneurship have come with a multitude of realistic and not so realistic plans and ideas. The ones we are excited about and expect most of are became reality in 2019, let’s describe two. The first is the Treasurer Test. It has taken years to bring the idea to a level we are happy with. In 2019 the first recruitment assignments with the Treasurer Test integrated were completed with positive reviews from clients. From our recruitment perspective this initiative brings us a way to objectify and strengthen treasury recruitment decisions. The Test is not a static tool but will further evolve. We hope to discuss it with you in 2020.
From the moment the community started, we have been closely involved in treasury XL. In 2019 the investments of the last years, combined with the expertise and power of the new community & partner manager Kendra has resulted in the platform reaching the next level. In 2020, together with treasuryXL and her partners, we will try to bring treasury expertise to a part of the economy where there are treasury exposures but no experts employed. From a broker perspective we will aim to serve a market where treasury consultants and “regular contractors” are not the proper solution. For further information, see treasuryXL.com.
Some plans are not (yet) reality
Currently we are 6 and hopefully soon 7. Our first priority lies with finding candidates for interim and permanent assignments in corporate treasury. Business in 2019 was good and realities sometimes harsh. Some plans we informed you about did not (yet) materialize. We still intend to invest in a structural way in international business, in video in our marketing & recruitment activities and in our infrastructure. But not at the cost of our existing business, there is no “one step back to do two forward”.
Have a great 2020!
With confidence we look forward to 2020. Let’s meet, call, connect and match together. Let’s bring corporate treasury to the next level with education, knowledge exchange and of course proper recruitment. Enjoy the holidays with your loved ones, see you in 2020!
